Tips for Fasting in Ramadan 

The Holy Month of Ramadan is a very exciting time in Qatar and the region as a whole. In addition to it being a month of religion and spirituality, it’s a time for family bonds, generosity and festivals. For Muslims, fasting begins at dawn, and ends at sundown with a meal called iftar. Here are a few tips that will help you fast during the holy month.

1. Don’t Skip Sohour:

You know what they say; breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the same applies in Ramadan. The pre-dawn meal, or sohour is essential for anyone who fasts, as this is the time to rehydrate and get the nutrients you need for the next days fast.

2. Don’t Over Eat During Iftar:
Your meal should be a well balanced one, with lots of liquids and fresh foods. Iftar is not a feast, but a balanced, healthy meal that includes high fiber foods and whole grains, as well as vegetables and fruits. Remember, eat slowly and enjoy your meal!

3. Drink Water:

One of the most important thing you can do is to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water between iftar and sohour, and opt for healthy fresh juices as well.

4. Consider The Essence: 
Ramadan is a time of reflection and self discipline. It is also a time for bonds and giving back. One of the things you can do is find a charity and volunteer for the month.

5. Exercise:

Ramadan is actually a great time to get a workout in! As the days are usually shorter, you have more time to squeeze in a session. Each body is different and reacts uniquely to fasting; some prefer a pre-iftar work out, while some choose to have their exercise session later in the night. Whichever timing you choose, make sure that you modify your workouts to fit your energy levels.

6. Plan Ahead:
For those who are fasting and cooking, pre-planning your meals on a weekly basis is one of the most important things you can do. So write down your menu and stick to it!

7. Eat Healthy: 
We can’t stress on the importance of this point! People usually look to reward themselves with greasy fried foods or sweet, sugary dishes. In addition to this being an unhealthy addition to your diet, it will also make it harder for you to fast the next day.

8. Think Dates:

Dates are a staple in Ramadan! It is customary to break a fast with dates, but it is also a great addition to your sohour, as it fills you up and also slowly increase blood sugar levels.
